The following requirements must be adhered to during your time at Best Choice Workforce:

  • Employees who work a minimum of five (5) hours are entitled to a 30 min unpaid break. This is in accordance with the requirements under the Ontario Ministry of Labour. Based on the product lines we have the following breaks:
    • one (1) 10 minute and one (1) 20-minute break
    • OR
    • one (1) 30-minute break
  • All jewellery (body piercings, rings, earrings, chains, bracelets, watches etc.) must be removed prior to entrance into the production area.
  • All hair must be covered with a company issued hair net.
  • Any facial hair must be covered by a beard net - including moustaches.
  • No clothing that may cause a foreign material risk may be worn on the production floor this includes shirts with buttons, fuzzy or frayed clothing, jewelled clothing (or hair clips), frayed hems on jeans; additionally no shorts, skirts, capris length pants or sleeveless shirts may be worn.
  • Nail polish is NOT permitted in the facility – we do not provide nail polish remover. Nails must be neatly trimmed and kept clean so they do not present a food safety risk.
  • No Henna tattoos are permitted on exposed parts of the hands and arms on employees in the manufacturing areas.
  • No chewing gum, lozenges, candy, food or drink are allowed in the production areas.
  • Hands must be washed upon entering the production area, and after you touch any unsanitary surface (including but not limited to: your face, hair, brooms, floor surface, after picking up an item from the floor, ears, nose, eyes).
  • Do not sit, walk or stand on any material (ingredient or packaging including pallets surfaces)
  • Spitting is prohibited.
  • Doors to the exterior must be kept closed and not propped open for any reason.
  • Any injuries must be reported to a Supervisor immediately.
  • Any open wounds must be covered by a company issued metal detectable bandage, these can be provided from the office. Bandages on the hand must be covered by a glove also provided from the production office. Any cuts or wounds incurred at the facility during work must be reported to the Manager and Line Operator immediately so that it can be cleaned properly and determined if any product was affected.
  • Food safety issues must be reported to the line operator and shift Supervisor immediately.
  • No chemicals may be brought into the facility.
  • Steel toed shoes are required in the production area, steel toed shoes cannot be worn to the facility. Street shoes must be worn to and from work and clean steel toed shoes brought to the facility for wearing once work commences. Shoes worn outside will not be permitted into the manufacturing areas due to the risk of contamination.
  • No glass is to be brought into the facility (no glass bottles or containers in lunches).
  • Product tasting is not permitted in the production areas.
  • Garbage must be placed in appropriate receptacles.
  • You are required to follow the directions given by the Line Operator at all times.
  • The use of wood is not acceptable in the production areas.
  • You must give forklifts the right of way. Always make eye contact with the driver and confirm he sees you before walking around the forklifts. STOP, LOOK and LISTEN.
  • Cell phones and cameras are NOT permitted to be used in the production areas.
  • Any temporary staff exhibiting signs of a communicable disease will not be permitted in the food handling areas to avoid the risk of contamination to product and personnel. Any temporary employee suffering from communicable disease must disclose the information in confidence to the shift Supervisor.

Harassment and Violence Policy for Employees

Purpose:
Best Choice Workforce is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and harassment- and violence-free work environment. This policy outlines our expectations and procedures for addressing any incidents of harassment or violence in the workplace.

Definitions:

  • Harassment: Any unwanted behavior that creates a hostile or intimidating work environment, including verbal abuse, harassment, or sexual harassment.
  • Violence: Any act of physical aggression or threat of harm, such as hitting, pushing, or bullying.

Employee Responsibilities:

  • Treat others with respect: All employees are expected to promote an environment of mutual respect.
  • Report incidents of harassment or violence: If you are a victim or a witness to harassment or violence, you must report it to your supervisor, manager, or Human Resources. You can make this report either verbally or in writing.
  • Cooperate with investigations: You are required to cooperate with any investigation related to harassment or violence complaints.

Complaint Procedure:

  • Report: Employees must report any incident of harassment or violence as soon as possible to their supervisor, manager, or the Human Resources department.
  • Investigation: Complaints will be investigated in a confidential, impartial, and timely manner.
  • Resolution: If the complaint is substantiated, appropriate corrective actions will be taken, which may include disciplinary measures, training, or other corrective actions.

Prevention:

  • Ongoing training: Training on the prevention of harassment and violence will be provided to all employees.
  • Culture of respect and inclusion: All employees are expected to contribute to maintaining a respectful and harassment-free work environment.

Consequences of Violations:

Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary actions, ranging from warnings to termination, depending on the severity of the incident.
